Ememobong hails court ruling on PDP victory

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ini Ememobong, has described the recent Oyo State High Court ruling affirming the party’s Ibadan Convention as a win for legal clarity over procedural complications.
The legal battle dates back to the November 2025 Ibadan Convention, which produced the party’s current executive team. A prior judgment had nullified the election of Kabiru Turaki, creating internal confusion.
Speaking with Arise News on Friday, Ememobong noted that the court’s ruling resolves longstanding legal disputes, stating that justice occurs when law aligns with facts.
He emphasised that political legitimacy was never in question, but legal challenges had hindered the party’s progress.
According to him, the PDP has remained legitimate despite earlier court decisions.
On the party’s restraint in disciplining internal rivals, Ememobong said the leadership allowed a “cooling-off period” to prevent escalation.
He likened it to managing anger carefully to avoid unnecessary conflict.
Ememobong also highlighted ongoing reconciliation efforts aimed at strengthening the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing the importance of retaining stakeholders and rebuilding the party.
He assured that the PDP is committed to a southern presidency for the upcoming elections and is managing internal setbacks strategically, with replacement mechanisms for key positions already in place.
The PDP’s rebuilding, he explained, is guided by principles, with leadership listening to both prominent figures and grassroots members to ensure inclusive decision-making.
Regarding collaboration with other opposition parties, Ememobong hinted at a future unified opposition, describing it as inevitable but emphasising that internal bases must first be consolidated for maximum impact.
He noted that PDP, ADC, and NNPP have already coordinated on critical issues like the electoral law, laying the groundwork for broader political cooperation in the future.
