Five killed in Plateau night attack

The Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, Bassey Ewah, has confirmed the killing of five persons in Bassa Local Government Area.
Ewah described the late-night assault as tragic and assured residents that security agencies are tracking the attackers.
He said gunmen stormed a residential area in Miango on Thursday night.
Police operatives responded swiftly after receiving a distress call from residents.
According to the commissioner, officers have been deployed to the affected community.
He vowed that the perpetrators would be apprehended and brought to justice.
Ewah urged residents to remain calm but vigilant amid heightened tension.
He called on the public to provide timely information on suspicious movements.
Further details emerged from the Irigwe Development Association.
The group said the victims were members of the same family attacked near an ECWA Church in Tudun Wada.
The incident reportedly occurred around 9:30 p.m. on February 26, 2026.
The deceased were identified as Nancy Monday, Nuhu Isaiah, Henry Dah, Zongo Sunday, and Tarma Monday.
The association noted that the attack followed the killing of Abbas Musa days earlier.
In a statement signed by spokesman Sam Jugo, the group condemned the repeated assaults.
It questioned why perpetrators often evade arrest despite security presence.
While expressing grief, the association appealed to residents not to resort to self-help.
The group urged community members to remain law-abiding despite provocation.
The latest violence has intensified fear across Bassa LGA.
Residents have called for reinforced security patrols to restore confidence in the area.
