Plateau govt holds emergency security council meeting

The Plateau State Government has convened an emergency security council meeting after a series of attacks and killings across the state, including in Jos, the state capital.
The meeting, chaired by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, included the Deputy Governor, senior officials, and heads of security agencies in the state.
The meeting was centred on security review in the past two weeks, including a mining-related incident in Wase LGA and multiple attacks, were examined.
The governor expressed sympathy to victims’ families and emphasised that many deaths were avoidable.
He noted that only authorised law enforcement agencies may now set up roadblocks; communities causing harm to travellers would be held accountable.
Governor Mutfwang stressed that every life in Plateau is sacred, and the government will not tolerate unlawful actions or vigilantism, urging residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant.
Citizens were cautioned against spreading misinformation and incitement online.
Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, said both kinetic (active operations) and non-kinetic (community engagement, intelligence) measures are being used to restore confidence and apprehend perpetrators.
Plateau youths were praised for restraint despite provocations.
