Oborevwori pays tribute as former Delta deputy governor Benjamin Elue dies at 85

Delta State Governor, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed profound grief over the death of former Deputy Governor, Benjamin Elue, who passed away at the age of 85.

In a condolence message released in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor described the late Elue as a devoted patriot, experienced administrator, and loyal party stalwart whose impact on Delta State’s political development would not be forgotten.

Chief Elue served as Deputy Governor from 1999 to 2007 during the administration of former Governor James Ibori.

Throughout his tenure, he earned a reputation for humility, diligence, and steadfast loyalty to the government he supported.

Governor Oborevwori said the news of Elue’s passing was received with shock and sadness, though he noted that there was comfort in the fact that the elder statesman lived a life marked by service and accomplishment.

He acknowledged Elue’s significant contributions not only to Delta State but also to Nigeria’s democratic growth.

Beyond politics, the governor highlighted the late deputy governor’s background as an accomplished educator who dedicated years to mentoring young people.

According to him, Elue’s calm temperament, depth of wisdom, and commitment to unity played a vital role in strengthening democratic governance in Delta State, particularly during the formative years of the Fourth Republic.

Oborevwori further commended Elue’s consistent advocacy for peace and unity across the state, emphasising that his legacy of integrity and selfless service would remain enduring.

“Chief Benjamin Elue was a man of honour who served Delta State with passion and loyalty.

”His contributions to the growth and stability of our dear state will remain evergreen,” the governor stated.

He noted that Elue’s exemplary leadership and accomplishments in public office earned him admiration across political and social divides.

Governor Oborevwori extended his condolences to the Elue family, the people of Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta North Senatorial District, and the entire state, praying for strength and comfort for those mourning the respected elder statesman.

He prayed God to grant the departed leader eternal rest and grant his loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
