Ebonyi Governor orders action after ex-deputy’s father kidnapped

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has expressed grave concern over the reported abduction of His Royal Highness, Ezeogo Francis Igwe, the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area and father of former Deputy Governor Kelechi Igwe, by suspected armed men on Sunday morning.

According to a statement released by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, on Sunday, the incident occurred along the Nwakpu axis of Ikwo as the monarch was reportedly en route to attend Sunday service at his local church.

Governor Nwifuru described the abduction as “deeply troubling and completely unacceptable,” emphasizing that attacks against innocent citizens, particularly revered community leaders, would not be tolerated in Ebonyi State.

“The government will not condone criminality against our people, and we will deploy every available resource to ensure justice is served,” the Governor stated.

The statement reassured residents and the affected family that all security and intelligence mechanisms had been activated for the immediate and safe rescue of the abducted traditional ruler.

“All security agencies in the state have been directed to work in synergy to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” Governor Nwifuru said.

The governor urged residents of Ebonyi State, particularly those in Ikwo and neighboring communities, to remain calm but vigilant.

He appealed for credible information that could assist security operatives in their ongoing rescue operations.

Governor Nwifuru further reiterated the administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that Ebonyi State would not be allowed to become a haven for criminal elements.

He also sent a stern warning to the abductors to release the traditional ruler unconditionally, noting that the full weight of the law would be applied to those responsible.

“The Ebonyi State Government remains confident that with public cooperation and the dedication of security agencies, the abducted royal father will be safely reunited with his family,” he added.

The incident has sparked widespread concern across the state, highlighting ongoing security challenges in parts of Ebonyi.

The government’s swift response underscores the seriousness with which it regards attacks on traditional institutions and the wider community.

The abduction comes amid heightened efforts by the state government to curb criminal activities and strengthen law enforcement across Ebonyi, following a spate of kidnappings and violent crimes in recent months.
