Delta APC congratulates new exco, denies crisis

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has congratulated its newly elected State Chairman, Solomon Arenyeka, and members of the State Executive Committee following what it described as a successful and historic party congress across the state.
In a statement issued Wednesday in Asaba, the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, dismissed a report by SaharaReporters alleging internal divisions within the party after its congresses.
Onojeghuo described the report as misleading and politically motivated, insisting that the Ward, Local Government and State Congresses held across the state were peaceful, transparent and widely accepted by party stakeholders.
According to the party, the congresses culminated in the emergence of a new State Executive Committee led by Arenyeka through a consensus arrangement that received broad support from leaders and members across Delta.
The statement noted that the process reflected the collective will of party stakeholders and demonstrated the APC’s commitment to unity and inclusiveness.
The party further rejected claims of factionalism, maintaining that no parallel congress took place anywhere in the state.
It said the exercise was conducted across all 270 wards and 25 local government areas without producing any rival leadership structures.
“For the first time in the political history of congresses in Delta APC, no individual has been paraded or returned as a factional chairman from any so-called parallel congress,” the statement said.
The APC attributed the peaceful outcome of the exercise to consultations and leadership within the party, including the role played by the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, whose approach it said encouraged consensus and unity.
According to the party, the consensus-driven model adopted during the congresses placed unity above personal ambition and strengthened party cohesion.
The statement added that both long-standing members and new entrants were successfully integrated into the party structure, resulting in what it described as a harmonised and formidable State Executive Committee.
The APC said the new leadership under Arenyeka represents competence and inclusiveness and would help reposition the party for expansion and electoral success in the state.
It also criticised what it called speculative journalism, arguing that the absence of a few individuals at political gatherings should not be interpreted as evidence of a crisis within a political party.
The party urged members to remain focused and disregard what it described as attempts to create unnecessary distractions, while calling on media organisations to verify information before publishing politically sensitive reports.
Reaffirming its political ambitions, the Delta APC said it had been strategically repositioned for the 2027 general elections, including contests for the presidency, governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly seats.
