Oborevwori declares Delta stronghold amid massive road projects

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, has declared that Delta has effectively become a no-go area for opposition parties, citing the visible achievements of his administration across the state.
Oborevwori made the declaration on Friday during the inauguration of the 4.8-kilometre Oko–Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala Road in Oko Kingdom and other road networks in Asaba, both in Oshimili South Local Government Area.
The governor said his administration’s extensive infrastructure projects have strengthened public confidence and positioned Delta for continued political dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“When I contested the 2023 election, I won in 21 out of 25 local government areas even before becoming governor.
”With the development we have delivered in almost three years, Delta has become a no-go area for other political parties,” Oborevwori stated.
He explained that the Oko–Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala Road would significantly improve transportation for farmers, enabling easier market access, reducing poverty, and enhancing rural livelihoods.
The governor noted that prior to the project, farmers often had to transport produce through neighbouring Anambra State, sometimes selling at giveaway prices.
Oborevwori also announced Phase Two of the Oko road project, valued at N16.9 billion, with contractor Setraco Nigeria Limited expected to complete the work within 24 months.
The governor highlighted the Amaechi Agusi and adjoining roads project in Asaba, which addresses severe erosion and flooding, enhancing transportation and business activities in the area.
He described the current period in Delta as a “harvest of projects,” including completed works at the Government Technical College, Omadino, and new faculty buildings at the University of Delta, Agbor, and Southern Delta University, Ozoro.
Oborevwori reiterated that his administration prioritises delivering tangible results over promises and assured residents of upcoming youth and women empowerment programmes under the ‘MORE Agenda’.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu for economic reforms that have improved the capacity of states to execute development projects.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, said the Oko road was built above the 2012 flood level to prevent future disruption, noting residents’ appreciation.
Chief Patrick Ukah, Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, reported over 70 kilometres of roads completed or ongoing in the capital territory, including the approved Asagba Road project, soon to commence.
Community leaders, including the Palace Secretary to the Asagba of Asaba, Chief Patrick Ndili, and Akor of Oko Kingdom, HRH Osita I, thanked the governor, describing the roads as transformational projects and pledged continued support for Oborevwori and President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
