Delta Govt Intensifies Drive to Improve Power Supply in Ode-Itsekiri, others By Stella Oputah

The Delta State Government has stepped up efforts to address electricity supply challenges across the state through strategic investments in power infrastructure.

The Commissioner for Energy, Michael Anoka, stated this during an inspection visit to the Ode-Itsekiri Electrification Project in Warri South Local Government Area.

Anoka said the project is aimed at stimulating economic growth and improving the living conditions of residents in the benefiting communities.

According to him, the electrification project involves the construction of a 33KV overhead line from NPA’s 15MVA Refinery feeder across the Warri River to connect Orugbo, Ode-Itsekiri, Ajigba, Inorin, Usele and Ugbodede communities.

While expressing satisfaction with the progress of work so far, the commissioner urged the contractor to accelerate the pace of work to ensure completion within the 12-month timeline.

Earlier, Anoka visited Transcorp Power Plc in Ughelli to explore possible collaboration on electricity generation and supply in the state.

He stressed that the administration of Sheriff Oborevwori is committed to improving power supply and creating a lasting legacy in the energy sector.

According to him, Delta State possesses enormous potential for electricity generation capable of driving industrial development and boosting the state’s economy.

In his response, the Managing Director of Transcorp Power Plc, Peter Ikenga, expressed appreciation for the visit and assured the state government of the company’s readiness to partner in advancing power generation initiatives.

The commissioner and his team were later conducted round the facility.
