Delta South youths praise Joel-Onowakpo over skills training

Participants in the 2026 International Class Welding and Fabrication Training Programme have commended the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, for facilitating their participation in the technical capacity-building initiative.

The month-long programme, organised by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) in partnership with the senator, was held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

It focused on equipping participants with hands-on training and internationally recognised skills in welding and fabrication.

Speaking after the successful completion of the training on Friday, the team leader of the Delta South trainees, Mr. Ewomazino Odugala, expressed gratitude to the senator for creating what he described as a transformative opportunity for youths from the senatorial district.

In a statement issued on behalf of the participants, Odugala said the programme had greatly enhanced their professional knowledge and practical competence in welding and fabrication.

He noted that the training exposed the participants to modern techniques and global standards required in the industry, which would significantly improve their chances of securing employment or starting their own businesses.

Odugala also commended the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board and the programme’s organisers for ensuring a smooth and successful training exercise.

According to him, the organisers and consultants demonstrated professionalism and dedication throughout the duration of the programme.

He particularly praised Senator Joel-Onowakpo for prioritising human capital development and for facilitating the training opportunity for youths within his constituency.

Odugala described the initiative as a clear demonstration of the senator’s commitment to empowering the people of Delta South through skills acquisition and capacity development.

“Our workaholic senator, the training we received has been invaluable to our career development.

”I particularly appreciate your efforts, which helped us gain deeper knowledge and practical understanding of international welding and fabrication standards,” he said.

He added that the senator’s intervention reflected his dedication to service and his desire to see young people in the district acquire the skills necessary to compete in the labour market.

“This achievement is a testament to your experience and commitment to service.

”Your dedication to fostering professional growth among your constituents is highly commendable,” Odugala added.

He further assured that the participants would make productive use of the knowledge gained during the training to improve their livelihoods and contribute positively to the development of their communities.

Also speaking, the Acting Secretary of the Welders Unit, Mr. Oyibu Oreva, who endorsed the appreciation message on behalf of the trainees, reiterated their collective gratitude to the senator for facilitating the programme.

Oreva said the opportunity had strengthened the participants’ technical abilities and boosted their confidence to pursue greater opportunities in the welding and fabrication industry.

“We are excited to apply these new skills in our future endeavours. Thank you for being a pillar of our success and for bringing us together as a team,” he said.

The participants noted that beyond technical training, the programme also encouraged teamwork, collaboration and discipline among the trainees.

They expressed optimism that the skills acquired would position them for better prospects in the oil and gas, construction and fabrication sectors, while also enabling them to contribute to local economic development.
