Anthony Placid named new police spokesman

The Nigeria Police Force has appointed Anthony Okon Placid as its new Force Public Relations Officer, replacing Benjamin Hundeyin.
The appointment was approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as part of ongoing adjustments in the police leadership structure following his recent assumption of office.
Hundeyin confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, announcing that Deputy Commissioner of Police Placid would now serve as the official spokesman of the police nationwide.
Placid is described by the police as an experienced officer with a strong background in administration, intelligence, operations, training, and international peacekeeping.
Born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, he hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
He studied Geography and Regional Planning at the University of Uyo and later obtained a Master’s degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos.
He also studied law at the National Open University of Nigeria.
Placid began his policing career in 1996 as a cadet assistant superintendent of police at the Police Academy in Kano and was commissioned into the force in August 1998.
Throughout his career, he has attended several professional and international training programmes, including the United Nations Peace Operations Specialised Training and leadership courses focused on peacebuilding, humanitarian law, human rights, and civilian protection.
The newly appointed spokesman has also served in various strategic roles within and outside Nigeria, gaining experience in both domestic policing and international peacekeeping operations.
His appointment forms part of broader reforms and restructuring within the police hierarchy under IGP Disu’s leadership.
