Cross River governor salutes women’s vital contributions

Governor Bassey Edet Otu of Cross River State, has lauded women across the state for their resilience and pivotal role in social and economic development, as the world observes International Women’s Day.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Linus Obogo, on Sunday, Governor Otu described women as “key drivers of progress” in sectors including agriculture, commerce, education, and public service.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding opportunities for women, highlighting policies and programmes designed to enhance female participation in agriculture, entrepreneurship, education, and technology.
The governor stressed that empowering women is both a social responsibility and an economic strategy critical for sustainable development.
Governor Otu also cited the recent State of Women’s Economic Empowerment report by BudgIT, which ranked Cross River among Nigeria’s top states for promoting women’s economic inclusion.
He said the recognition underscores the administration’s strategic investments in agriculture, education, innovation, and the creative economy.
He extended congratulations to women across the state, including farmers, traders, professionals, and community leaders, for their dedication to the state’s growth.
The governor assured continued support through initiatives aimed at broadening economic opportunities and strengthening women’s roles in development, emphasising that women’s empowerment will remain central to his administration’s agenda.
