APC targets 10 million votes for Tinubu in Southwest

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled plans to secure at least 10 million votes for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the South-west region alone, Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele has disclosed.

Bamidele, who also chairs the Ekiti APC 2026 Governorship Election Campaign Council, made the revelation on Monday following the inauguration of the party’s 57-member governorship election campaign council in Ado Ekiti.

He described the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State as a referendum on the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, expressing confidence that the ruling party would secure a decisive victory.

“Governor Oyebanji’s development initiatives and programmes since assuming office have been unprecedented in the history of the state,” Bamidele said, adding that his re-election is “a walkover for the APC.”

The inauguration ceremony drew several APC leaders and government officials, including Deputy Governor Chief Monisade Afuye; Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye; APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru; Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Senator Dayo Adeyeye; and former Senator of Ekiti Central, Senator Bode Ola, among others.

Addressing party members, Bamidele called for intensified mobilisation ahead of the elections, noting that the party’s broader goal is to strengthen its support base for the 2027 general elections.

“As a party of conviction and vision, we have already set a target ahead of 2027. We have designed a mobilisation plan to deliver at least 10 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the six states of the South-west alone,” he said.

He urged APC leaders to actively participate in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, highlighting that Ekiti State currently has 987,647 registered voters out of a population of about 3.8 million.

“We need to mobilise our members, neighbours, and relations not just to register as new voters, but also to collect their permanent voter cards (PVCs),” Bamidele said.

He further projected that voter registration could increase by 50 per cent if mobilisation efforts intensify before the CVR exercise concludes in August 2026.

Bamidele pledged to lead the governorship campaign with dedication and deliver a 90 per cent landslide victory for the APC and its candidate.

He urged members to engage in grassroots mobilisation, going house-to-house and street-to-street to encourage voter registration and participation.

Governor Oyebanji thanked Bamidele for his support and reaffirmed his commitment to running an issue-based campaign, focusing on policies, programmes, and development plans rather than personal attacks.

He also called on candidates of other political parties to comply with the Electoral Act 2022 and the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to ensure a peaceful and credible election in Ekiti State.
