JAMB remits N1.5bn to CBT centres ahead of 2026 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has confirmed that a total of N1,570,671,200 has been paid to Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across Nigeria for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration exercise.

The disclosure was contained in the Board’s latest bulletin, signed by its Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin.

The payments covered the N700 registration fee collected on behalf of the CBT centres from candidates during registration.

JAMB explained that the payment system, which combines the ePIN fee with the centre registration charge, allows candidates to register at any accredited centre without making multiple payments, eliminating potential exploitation and unauthorized charges.

To further enhance transparency, JAMB has implemented a “No View, No Pay” policy, meaning centres are remunerated only after verification that the candidates they registered are valid and visible in the Board’s system.

This initiative strengthens cashless registration and reduces irregularities, particularly among private CBT centres.

Ahead of the 2026 UTME, scheduled from April 16 to 25, JAMB has expanded the number of examination centres nationwide from fewer than 800 in 2025 to 1,000 centres, aiming to improve access and logistics for candidates.

A total of 2,243,816 candidates have registered for the examination so far, with Lagos (321,814), Kaduna (303,498), FCT-Abuja (302,963), and Ogun (137,156) leading in the number of registrants.

The Board also projected N23.8 billion in internally generated revenue for 2026, an increase of N4 billion from 2025, with N6 billion expected to be remitted to the Federation Account as operating surplus.

JAMB continues to emphasise compliance and transparency in all registration processes, ensuring that candidates and centres participate fairly in the UTME.
