Akpabio urges Nigerians to engage legislature

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to channel their concerns through elected representatives, stressing that the legislative process remains the most effective platform for addressing national challenges.
Speaking during the resumption of plenary at the Nigerian Senate, Akpabio said the parliament exists not merely for debate but to develop practical solutions to issues affecting citizens.
He noted that while social media platforms help amplify public opinion and draw attention to pressing concerns, sustainable solutions are best achieved through formal governance structures and legislative engagement.
According to the Senate President, the legislature provides the institutional framework where policies are debated, refined, and implemented for the benefit of the country.
Akpabio also highlighted the importance of the national budget, describing it as one of the most critical responsibilities currently before lawmakers.
He said the budget represents more than financial figures, noting that it outlines the government’s priorities and the direction of national development.
The Senate President expressed confidence that committees in the chamber would thoroughly review budget proposals across various sectors to ensure that government spending reflects the needs of ordinary Nigerians.
He said the process must consider the aspirations of citizens from different backgrounds, including farmers, traders, students, and workers across the country.
Acknowledging the challenges confronting the nation, Akpabio urged lawmakers to approach their duties with commitment and responsibility while working collectively to strengthen institutions and expand economic opportunities.
He called on senators to perform their legislative roles with seriousness, dignity, and patriotism despite political differences, stressing that responsible management of public resources is key to improving the lives of Nigerians.
