Delta Police record breakthroughs in intelligence operations

The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant successes in its fight against crime through intelligence-driven operations, leading to the arrest of hundreds of suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons across the state.

statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe; said the suspect was in custody and had provided useful information in aid of ongoing efforts to apprehend other members of the criminal network.

Police authorities disclosed that the achievements followed sustained surveillance, coordinated raids and actionable intelligence gathered from communities and security partners.

The operations targeted criminal networks involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, drug trafficking and other violent crimes.

According to the command, a proactive policing strategy anchored on intelligence gathering and collaboration with local stakeholders has strengthened its ability to dismantle criminal hideouts and apprehend suspects.

The command said the approach enabled operatives to intercept several criminal activities before they were executed, thereby improving security in many parts of the state.

During the operations, security agents recovered a large cache of weapons, including assault rifles, pump-action guns and other firearms.

Thousands of rounds of ammunition were also seized from suspects linked to various criminal gangs operating within and outside the state.

The command further revealed that numerous suspects connected to murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and cult-related violence were arrested during the crackdown.

Several kidnapped victims were also rescued, while vehicles and ransom money linked to criminal activities were recovered by investigators.

The command said a notable aspect of the operation was the raid on a notorious drug distribution hub in Agbor, where officers arrested more than 160 suspects and seized large quantities of illicit substances, including tramadol and codeine-based products.

The raid followed credible intelligence indicating that the location had become a major centre for the sale and distribution of hard drugs.

It said the successes were made possible through strong cooperation between the command and community stakeholders such as vigilante groups, anti-cult volunteers, traditional rulers and civil society organisations.

The collaboration, they noted, has improved information sharing and helped security operatives track criminal movements across communities.

The command commended its officers and men for their dedication and professionalism, noting that their sacrifices had contributed to restoring public confidence in security efforts across the State.

Residents were also urged to continue supporting the police by providing credible information that could assist ongoing investigations and future operations.

The police reassured the public of their commitment to sustaining intelligence-led policing strategies to ensure the protection of lives and property and maintain peace across the state.
