Delta warns contractors over slow, substandard road projects

The Delta State Government has issued a strong warning to contractors handling road projects in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, threatening to revoke contracts that fail to meet required standards or progress timelines.

The warning came during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects in the area by the Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu.

Aniagwu, who led government officials to assess the level of work on several road construction sites, expressed concern over the slow pace and quality of some projects.

He cautioned that contractors who fail to meet contractual obligations would face immediate sanctions, including termination of their contracts.

According to the commissioner, the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remains committed to delivering durable and high-quality infrastructure to communities across the state.

He stressed that the government would not tolerate delays or poorly executed jobs that undermine public confidence and waste taxpayers’ funds.

During the inspection, Aniagwu noted that the government had provided the necessary support and funding to ensure that contractors deliver projects according to specification.

However, he said some contractors were not living up to expectations, prompting the government to consider decisive action.

He explained that any contractor found carrying out substandard work or failing to maintain a satisfactory pace on site could have the contract withdrawn and reassigned to more competent firms capable of completing the project within the agreed timeframe.

Aniagwu reiterated that the state government’s priority is to ensure value for money in all public projects.

He added that strict supervision and regular inspections would continue across project sites to ensure compliance with engineering standards and contractual agreements.

The commissioner also urged contractors to take advantage of the dry season to accelerate construction work, noting that delays could further affect project completion schedules.

He assured residents of Ndokwa West and other parts of the state that the government remained determined to complete road projects that would improve transportation, enhance economic activities, and connect communities.

Aniagwu emphasised that the Oborevwori administration would not hesitate to act against any contractor whose performance falls short of expectations.

He stressed that only companies capable of delivering quality work would continue to partner with the state government on infrastructure development.
