Atiku hails senators’ courageous move to ADC

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has praised Senator Binos Yaroe and eight other senators for their recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the decision as a bold demonstration of commitment to Nigeria’s democratic principles.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Atiku commended the lawmakers for prioritising the nation’s interest above political pressures and personal gain.

“I commend Senator Binos Yaroe and the eight distinguished senators who boldly aligned with the ADC on Saturday, not for personal gain, but in the interest of Nigeria’s democracy,” he wrote.

The former vice president highlighted that their decision to join the opposition, at a time when many politicians are reportedly being pressured to join the ruling party, reflects courage, conviction, and dedication to national interest.

“At a time when many are being coerced into the ruling party, their decision to stand with the opposition is a powerful statement of courage, conviction, and commitment to national interest,” he added.

Atiku further stressed the critical role of a credible opposition in a functioning democracy, noting that without it, democratic governance is superficial.

“Democracy without credible opposition is democracy in name only,” he said, underscoring that the senators’ move strengthens efforts to promote accountability, good governance, and a better future for Nigerians.

He noted that principled leadership ultimately benefits the nation. “When leaders choose principle over pressure, the nation wins.
Together, we will build a stronger, more just, and more prosperous Nigeria,” Atiku stated.
