Arsenal advance, Chelsea, Man City crash out of champions league

In a night of dramatic twists across Europe, Arsenal secured their place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals with a commanding 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen at the Emirates Stadium, completing a 3-1 aggregate win.

Meanwhile, Chelsea suffered a humiliating 8-2 aggregate exit to Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester City were eliminated 5-1 by Real Madrid, highlighting the unforgiving nature of knockout football.

At the Emirates, Arsenal displayed composure and clinical precision.

Eberechi Eze opened the scoring with a stunning first-half strike, controlling Leandro Trossard’s pass before sending the ball into the top corner.

Declan Rice doubled the advantage after the break, driving forward and curling a precise shot into the net, capping a dominant performance.

Despite late pressure from Leverkusen, including a close-range effort denied by David Raya, Mikel Arteta’s side held firm, setting up a quarter-final clash with Sporting CP.

Chelsea endured a night to forget in Paris, suffering their worst-ever Champions League knockout defeat.

The Blues were thrashed 3-0 on the night, going down 8-2 on aggregate.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring after Mamadou Sarr mishandled a long ball, followed by Achraf Hakimi assisting Bradley Barcola for a second.

Senny Mayulu added a third to complete a one-sided display.

Chelsea’s woes worsened when Trevoh Chalobah left the field injured, forcing the team to finish with ten men.

Manchester City’s hopes were also dashed after a 2-1 home defeat to Real Madrid, completing a 5-1 aggregate loss.

The tie turned decisively when captain Bernardo Silva was sent off for handling a goal-bound shot from Vinicius Jr, conceding a penalty that Vinicius converted.

Erling Haaland briefly equalised before half-time, but City were repeatedly denied by Thibaut Courtois and his replacement Andriy Lunin, with Vinicius sealing Madrid’s victory in added time.

While Arsenal progress with momentum and confidence, the dramatic exits of Chelsea and Manchester City underscore the fine margins of the Champions League, where individual brilliance and costly errors can define the fate of even the strongest clubs.
