PDP blames Tinubu for Maiduguri bombings, cites rising insecurity

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has held President Bola Tinubu responsible for the recent bombings in Maiduguri, calling the attack evidence of worsening insecurity nationwide.

In a March 17, 2026 statement, signed by National Publicity Secretary Comrade Ini Ememobong, the party condemned the multiple explosions that killed at least 23 and injured over 100 people.

The PDP criticised the APC-led government, arguing that insecurity has escalated despite past assurances.

“This bombing is another indication of the federal government’s failure to curb growing insecurity,” the statement said, noting that 11 years after 2015, violent incidents have spread beyond the Northeastern region to previously peaceful areas.

The party further accused the administration of prioritising political matters over security.

“Resources are being directed towards political agendas rather than protecting citizens from violence,” the statement added.

While expressing sympathy to victims’ families, the PDP urged the government to adopt a whole-of-society approach, engaging strategic stakeholders, particularly community leaders, to effectively tackle insecurity.
