Anambra governor orders political appointees to hand over

Governor Chukwuma Soludo, of Anambra State, has directed all political appointees in his administration to step down and hand over responsibilities to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
The directive was issued a day after Soludo’s second-term inauguration.
According to a statement signed by Nwabufo Nwankwo, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, the affected appointees are expected to complete the handover on or before the close of work on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, to ensure continuity of governance until a new cabinet is formed.
Additionally, first-term cabinet members have been asked to meet with the governor on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the ANSEC Chambers of the Light House, Awka.
Soludo, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was sworn in for a second term alongside his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim, at the newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.
In his address, he highlighted achievements in security and economic recovery, noting that Anambra has become one of the safest states in Nigeria.
The inauguration was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and other dignitaries.
The swearing-in followed the declaration of Soludo as winner of the November 8, 2025, governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
