Governors call for unity, peace at Eid

Governors across Nigeria have extended goodwill messages to Muslim faithful marking Eid al-Fitr, urging citizens to embrace unity, compassion, and peaceful coexistence while offering prayers for national stability and improved security.

The leaders stressed the importance of collective responsibility in addressing the country’s challenges, noting that the end of Ramadan presents an opportunity for reflection and renewed commitment to nation-building.

In Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde congratulated Muslims on successfully completing the fasting period, praising their devotion, sacrifice, and perseverance.

He encouraged them to use the occasion to seek divine guidance for both state and national leadership, while also urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

Similarly, in Borno State, Governor Babagana Zulum commended the Muslim community and reiterated his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity.

He described Ramadan as a period marked by spiritual renewal and generosity, revealing that hundreds of thousands of vulnerable residents received support during the fasting period.

While expressing concern over recent security incidents, including attacks in Maiduguri, Zulum called on citizens to remain resilient and continue supporting ongoing security efforts.

He also assured that adequate arrangements had been made to secure Eid prayer grounds across the state.

In Zamfara State, Governor Dauda Lawal urged Muslims to intensify prayers for peace and unity, describing Eid as a time of gratitude, renewal, and communal harmony.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State highlighted the significance of interfaith harmony, noting that the overlap of Ramadan with the Christian Lenten season offers a unique opportunity to strengthen unity across religious lines.

He encouraged citizens to uphold values such as patience, empathy, and generosity.

In Adamawa State, Governor Umaru Fintiri called for tolerance and peaceful coexistence, stressing that national development depends on unity.

He also advised residents to remain security conscious, avoid overcrowded areas, and uphold virtues like love and forgiveness.

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State urged Muslims to sustain the discipline and compassion cultivated during Ramadan, noting that such values should guide daily life and community service beyond the festive period.

In Niger State, Governor Umaru Bago encouraged residents to continue practising charity, humility, and sacrifice, while also praying for lasting peace and economic progress.

He advised youths in particular to celebrate responsibly.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State called on Nigerians to embrace diversity and strengthen national unity.

He expressed hope that the celebration would deepen mutual respect among people of different faiths.

In Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas urged citizens to avoid divisive tendencies, especially in the face of increasing political activities, and instead focus on peaceful engagement and constructive dialogue.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State described Ramadan as a period of deep reflection and self-discipline, encouraging Muslims to carry forward its lessons of patience and generosity.

In Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo called for sustained harmony and cooperation among citizens, emphasising the shared responsibility of building a better society.

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State urged Muslims to use the occasion to pray for peace both within the country and globally, while also extending kindness to the less privileged.

Similarly, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State encouraged Nigerians to strengthen bonds of unity, describing Eid as a celebration rooted in the highest ideals of faith and humanity.

The governors collectively underscored the need for vigilance during the celebrations, advising citizens to prioritise safety and remain alert.

In the Federal Capital Territory, Minister Nyesom Wike also called on residents to uphold values of compassion, forgiveness, and unity, while praying for continued peace and national progress.
