I left gospel music because it wasn’t profitable — Producer Ozedikus

Nigerian music producer Ozedikus has revealed that he stepped away from gospel music due to financial challenges, saying the genre was no longer a sustainable career path for him.

In an interview, Ozedikus explained that despite the spiritual impact of gospel music, the returns from producing it were often minimal compared to other genres in the Nigerian music industry.

“I love gospel music, but I had to face reality. It wasn’t profitable, and I needed to sustain my family and career,” he said.

The producer, known for his work with several emerging gospel artists, said the decision to pivot to secular music was purely a professional one.

“It wasn’t about abandoning my faith; it was about ensuring that my craft could support me financially,” Ozedikus added.

He encouraged other creatives in the gospel space to find ways to monetise their talent without compromising their message.

“Gospel music is powerful, but we also need to think about sustainability and growth,” he said.

Ozedikus’ revelation sheds light on the ongoing debate in Nigeria about the commercial viability of gospel music versus mainstream secular music, highlighting the challenges producers face in balancing passion with profitability.
