Delta police detain 15 suspects in Ozoro assault case

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 11 additional suspects linked to Thursday’s alleged sexual assault in Ozoro community, bringing the total in custody to 15.
Spokesperson SP Bright Edafe disclosed the development on Saturday, following a crackdown on those allegedly involved.
“In furtherance of earlier reports on the alleged sexual assaults in Oramudu Quarters, Ozoro, the command provides an update on ongoing investigations,” Edafe said.
He explained that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aina Adeshina, directed the CP Special Assignment Team to conduct a detailed probe into the incident.
Acting on this directive, operatives analysed video evidence and intelligence, which led to the arrest of the additional suspects.
Edafe also listed some of those arrested as Samson Atukpodo, Steven Ovie, Ugbevo Samson, Afoke Akporobaro, and Evidence Oguname, alongside six others.
Preliminary findings indicated that criminal elements exploited the situation to commit acts of sexual violence, which Edafe stressed were not representative of any legitimate cultural practice of the Ozoro community.
“The Commissioner condemns these acts entirely and reassures the public of the command’s resolve to secure justice for victims. All involved will be identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he added.
The police further urged members of the public, particularly victims and witnesses, to provide credible information to aid ongoing investigations.
