Nigeria pledges support for global oil supply

Nigeria has signalled its readiness to play a stabilising role in the global energy market amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East that continue to disrupt oil supply chains.
The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, stated that the country is prepared to contribute to global energy security as uncertainties in major oil-producing regions intensify concerns about supply shortages.
According to him, ongoing conflicts and instability in parts of the Middle East have affected production and distribution in key countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Iraq, triggering a surge in global oil prices and increasing pressure on energy markets.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, the minister emphasised that Nigeria remains willing to step in where necessary to help ease supply constraints, noting that the country recognises its responsibility as a major oil producer.
He stated that Nigeria stands ready to support global efforts aimed at maintaining energy stability, stressing that the country is open to contributing in ways that can help address supply disruptions.
In a statement issued through his media aide, the minister also highlighted the importance of President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing international engagements, describing them as strategic efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s partnerships and global standing.
He noted that recent diplomatic engagements, including those with the United Kingdom, are aimed at deepening long-standing ties rooted in shared historical, cultural, and economic interests.
The minister further pointed to the administration’s reform agenda, saying it is beginning to yield positive outcomes for the economy and improve Nigeria’s global image.
According to him, the government remains committed to sustaining reforms, enhancing national security, and creating a stable environment for economic growth.
Idris also addressed concerns about security challenges within the country, maintaining that security agencies are actively working to improve safety and prevent further incidents.
He noted that progress has been recorded in some areas, including Maiduguri, where conditions have improved over time.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens while positioning Nigeria as a dependable partner in addressing global energy needs.
