NFF updates statutes, schedules elective congress for Sept. 26

The Nigeria Football Federation has approved amendments to its statutes and electoral framework, setting September 26, 2026, for its elective congress.

The resolutions were adopted during an Extraordinary General Assembly held at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa.

Delegates unanimously endorsed revisions to the NFF Statutes (March 2026 Edition), Electoral Code, and Standing Orders, aiming to strengthen governance, transparency, and accountability in Nigerian football.

A 12-member Electoral Committee and Appeals Committee, representing the six geopolitical zones, was ratified and is scheduled to be inaugurated on March 25 in Abuja.

For financial oversight, the congress approved Ernst & Young as the independent auditor for a four-year term, following a competitive selection involving seven firms.

The assembly confirmed Lafia as the host city for the 2026 elective congress, marking the next leadership transition for the federation.

Delegates also passed a vote of confidence in the NFF Executive Committee led by Ibrahim Musa Gusau, citing its achievements in football development nationwide.

The congress observed a minute’s silence for late football figures, including former Technical Director Adegboye Onigbinde and ex-captain Henry Nwosu.

President Bola Tinubu was commended for his support of sports, particularly funding and incentives for national teams.

The Bayelsa State Government was praised for hosting the assembly, while representatives from FIFA and CAF attended, expressing backing for Nigeria’s ongoing football reforms.
