APC convention will be rancour-free, says Aniagwu

The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has expressed optimism that the upcoming national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be peaceful, orderly, and free from internal disputes.
Speaking on Thursday at the sidelines of the party’s world press conference held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, Aniagwu assured delegates and party members that the convention, scheduled for Friday at Eagle Square, Abuja, would uphold democratic norms.
The event is expected to draw approximately 8,453 delegates who will select the party’s leadership through a consensus process.
Comparing the convention to the final stage of cake preparation, Aniagwu said the party had already laid a solid foundation through meticulous planning from the ward level up to the national stage.
“And before you ice the cake, it means that the cake must be baked.
”We started from the ward level, progressed to the local government, then to the state level, and now to the national convention,” he explained.
He noted that the procedures leading up to the convention demonstrated APC’s unwavering commitment to internal democracy, adherence to its constitution, and compliance with the Electoral Act.
Highlighting the generally peaceful conduct of previous congresses across the country, Aniagwu said this track record attests to the party’s capacity to handle its affairs without friction.
“You have not heard of any serious trouble from the zonal congresses. Where there are disagreements, the party has mechanisms to resolve them.
”So, be rest assured that the convention will be rancour-free,” he affirmed.
Acknowledging that disagreements were inevitable in political settings, Aniagwu emphasised that APC has effective internal structures to resolve conflicts and maintain cohesion.
He further stressed that the outcome of the national convention would reinforce the party’s democratic credentials and bolster public confidence in its internal processes.
The APC National Convention is expected to culminate in the selection of new party leadership, setting the stage for upcoming political engagements and future electoral contests.
