Former PDP women leader defects to NDC, backs Dickson

In a major political development that further strengthens the grassroots base of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), former two-time PDP Women Leader of Sagbama LGA and former Caretaker Councillor of Ward 10, Hon.
Mrs. Helen Eke, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the NDC.
Eke, a respected grassroots mobilizer and influential women leader, formally declared her support for the NDC and its National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, citing his proven leadership, consistent empowerment of the people, and unwavering commitment to grassroots development.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Sagbama LGA Executive and the commissioning of the NDC Party Secretariat in Sagbama LGA, Eke assured party members of her readiness to mobilise women across the LGA in support of all NDC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
She urged party faithful and supporters not to be distracted by opposition narratives, emphasising that: “Only ripe fruits attract stones.”
According to her, the growing attention and opposition directed at Senator Dickson is a clear indication of his political strength and widespread acceptance across Bayelsa State.
Eke further used the opportunity to encourage leaders and members of the party to remain steadfast, noting that the NDC’s guiding principle, “Service to the People,” reflects the true essence of people-oriented leadership.
Reaffirming the political strength of her base, she stated that Ward 10 and Sagbama LGA have always been strongholds of Senator Dickson, and assured that the loyalty and support of the people remain unshaken.
This strategic defection is widely seen as a significant boost to the NDC’s growing influence, particularly among women and grassroots structures, as the party continues to consolidate its position ahead of the 2027 elections.
The momentum is building. The structure is strengthening. The people are aligning.
