Sultan leads prayers for Tinubu at 74

The Sultan of Sokoto, represented by the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, on Sunday led special prayers for President Bola Tinubu on the occasion of his 74th birthday in Abuja.
The prayer session, held at the National Mosque, on Sunday Abuja, attracted traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, and political leaders from across the country.
Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, said in a statement that President Tinubu attended the prayers and observed the Asr prayer afterwards.
The prayers focused on seeking Allah’s guidance, wisdom, good health, and strength for the President as he continues to lead the nation.
Governors, ministers, politicians, and worshippers gathered at the mosque, offering prayers for peace, unity, and national development.
Etsu Nupe described the gathering as a solemn spiritual exercise rather than a celebration.
“This is a solemn spiritual exercise, not a celebration,” he said, adding that prayers for peace, unity, and national progress must continue.
The Emir of Keffi, Chindo Yamusa, commended Tinubu’s economic reforms and support to states, noting that interventions in salaries and infrastructure were yielding positive results in Nasarawa State.
Islamic scholars from various sects across the country also offered prayers for the President’s well-being, national stability, and continued unity.
More than 300 scholars recited the Holy Qur’an 111 times, offering extensive supplications for Nigeria’s peace, progress, and long-term stability.
Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, conveyed the President’s appreciation, thanking religious leaders and attendees for their prayers and goodwill.
According to him, President Tinubu remains committed to national unity and development, urging Nigerians to continue supporting the administration through prayers.
Professor Ibrahim Maqari, Chief Imam at the National Mosque, concluded the session with prayers for lasting peace, prosperity, and stability across Nigeria.
Meanwhile, a separate prayer session organised by the Arewa Think Tank in Kaduna also marked the President’s birthday, drawing notable leaders and dignitaries.
Among attendees were former Kaduna State Governor, Muktar Yero, Senator Tijjani Tafida, Emir of Wase, Mohammed Haruna, and labour leader Issa Aremu.
