Teen arrested in Delta drug death

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 15-year-old boy over the death of his friend, allegedly linked to the consumption of a large quantity of Dexamethasone tablets in Orogun.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the case was reported at the Orogun Division, identifying the suspect as Gift Oberhirhi and the deceased as 15-year-old Destiny Akpofure.
Police said the deceased reportedly ingested about 15 tablets of the drug, which were allegedly given to him by the suspect without any medical prescription.
He was said to have fallen ill shortly after and died while being rushed for treatment.
Operatives who responded to the incident evacuated the body to the General Hospital mortuary in Orogun for autopsy, while the suspect remains in custody.
Edafe noted that investigations are ongoing, stressing that the incident underscores the dangers of drug misuse and illegal distribution, particularly among young people, and the need for stricter enforcement.
