Ebonyi governor condemns murder of traditional ruler

The Francis Nwifuru, Governor of Ebonyi State, has strongly condemned the killing of Eze Josephat Ikegwu, the traditional ruler of Isinkwo Community, describing the act as barbaric and a direct assault on the peace and unity of the state.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, Governor Nwifuru directed the state’s joint security agencies to immediately investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder.
“It is with a heart weighed down by grief and deep anguish that I condemn the gruesome and senseless murder of His Royal Highness, Ezeogo Josephat Ikegwu of Isinkwo Community in Onicha Local Government Area,” he said.
“This tragic act is not only an attack on our revered traditional institution but also a direct assault on the peace, unity, and collective conscience of our dear Ebonyi State.”
Governor Nwifuru extended condolences to the monarch’s family, the people of Isinkwo, and the entire Onicha Local Government Area.
He assured citizens that the administration will not tolerate such crimes, emphasising that security agencies have been fully mobilised to apprehend and prosecute those responsible.
The governor stressed that no individual or group, regardless of status or connections, would be exempt from accountability if found culpable.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to peace, security, and social order as essential foundations for sustainable development.
He called on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, and security agencies to collaborate in safeguarding peace across Ebonyi State.
“The sanctity of human life remains non-negotiable under my watch,” Governor Nwifuru said.
“Without peace, there can be no progress; without security, there can be no future.”
