BON celebrates excellence in broadcasting, honours governors, industry leaders

The 2026 Nigeria Broadcasting Awards recognised outstanding contributions to the media industry, with prominent Nigerians such as Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna, and Dr. John Momoh (OON), Chairman of Channels Media Group, among the honourees.

The event, organised by the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) in Abuja, screened 248 entries for excellence in broadcasting.

Lifetime achievement awards were presented to former Directors General Shyngle Wigwe, Yemi Farounbi, and Malam Abubakar Jijiwa, among others, recognising their lasting impact on Nigerian media.

Channels Television won Television Station of the Year, adding to its record of 16 previous awards at the Nigeria Media Merit Awards (NMMA).

TVC was named Best Television Station – News (English Language), while NTA Hausa claimed the award for Best Television Station – News (Indigenous Language).

Other notable winners included:
Reporter of the Year: Ovieteme George (Arise News), Newscaster of the Year (TV): Veronica Dan-Ikpoyi (TVC News)
Presenter of the Year (TV): Dapo Adegboye (News Central)
Best TV Show (English): Money Line With Nancy (AIT).

Best Radio Station: Eko FM, also winning Best Radio Station – News (English)
Corporate awards were given to DAAR Communications Plc, MultiChoice Nigeria, Desmins Broadcasting (DITV), and Voice of Nigeria for advancing broadcasting in Nigeria.

Speakers, including the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, and Governor Dauda Lawal, praised the awards for promoting professionalism, innovation, and excellence in the media sector.

The Nigeria Broadcasting Awards continue to celebrate exceptional media practitioners while encouraging diligence, accuracy, and quality production across both television and radio.
