Oborevwori pays tribute at service of songs for late Chief Egwuenu

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, has described the late Chief Matthew Egwuenu as a man who lived a life of impactful service, discipline, and lasting legacy.
The Governor made the remarks on Thursday during a service of songs and vigil mass held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church field in Obinomba, Ukwuani Local Government Area of the State, in honour of the late Egwuenu, father of Arise TV presenter Ojy Okpe.
Oborevwori said the late Egwuenu’s life was defined not just by longevity but by meaningful contributions to his family, community, and the nation.
He noted that the turnout of political leaders, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders reflected the respect and unity the deceased inspired in life.
“Your presence here today is a clear demonstration of the value we place on one another, especially in moments of grief,” he said.
He also stated that Egwuenu retired honourably as a Commissioner of Police after years of dedicated service to Nigeria.
The governor also praised the late patriarch for raising children who embody discipline, integrity, and excellence, noting that their character reflects his legacy.
“When you see the quality of his children, their courage, brilliance, and integrity, you cannot but acknowledge that this is a man who lived well,” he said.
He urged the Ndokwa nation and sympathisers to support the bereaved family and continue to uphold the values the deceased stood for.
Earlier during the homily at the service, Reverend Father Vitus Ogbonna, speaking at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church field in Obinomba, reminded the congregation that death is a natural part of life and encouraged the family to remain strong in faith.
He urged them to take comfort in scripture and the belief that their father lived a fulfilled life of service.
