NDLEA arrests couple, seizes drugs in 7 States

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a couple in Takuti village, Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State, over alleged involvement in trafficking a large consignment of suspected cannabis (skunk).
The couple were apprehended after operatives discovered about 118 kilogrammes of the substance during a search of their kitchen.
According to a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the suspects were arrested on April 9, 2026.
In a separate operation, the agency also intercepted a trailer loaded with vehicle spare parts in Borno State, uncovering a large cache of illicit drugs concealed within the consignment.
The seizure included 42,290 tablets of Rohypnol, 82,700 millilitres of codeine syrup, and 10,000 millilitres of pentazocine injection.
Babafemi said the truck, which was moving from Nnewi in Anambra State, was intercepted by NDLEA operatives along the Damaturu–Maiduguri road at Njimtilo.
The owner of the goods, identified as 43-year-old Eleje Ibeabuchi, was later arrested during a follow-up operation.
In Lagos State, NDLEA officers acting on intelligence intercepted a Chisco luxury bus heading to Port Harcourt along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 15 kilogrammes of suspected “Scottish Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis hidden in a compartment of the bus.
Two suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure.
In another raid in Lagos, operatives intercepted a truck in the Mushin area carrying assorted goods bound for Onitsha in Anambra State.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 26,800 bottles of codeine-based syrup, and two suspects were taken into custody.
In the Federal Capital Territory, NDLEA operatives stormed the notorious Tora Bora drug joint, arresting eight suspects and recovering a total of 11.516 kilogrammes of suspected skunk.
Similarly, in Edo State, two trucks intercepted along the Warrake road in Auchi were found to contain massive quantities of cannabis concealed among cartons of beer.
One truck contained 3,900 kilogrammes, while the second carried 3,345 kilogrammes, bringing the total to 7,245 kilogrammes.
Five suspects were arrested in connection with the operation.
Babafemi added that the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign continued across the country alongside enforcement operations aimed at reducing drug trafficking and abuse nationwide.
