Delta Govt. intensifies infrastructure development drive

The Delta Government has stepped up its infrastructure development efforts with the completion of critical urban road networks in Asaba and and surrounding communities.
The State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Mr Reuben Izeze, said this during the inspection of newly completed network of roads spanning over 2.75 km on Wednesday in Asaba and it’s environs.
Izeze said the move was part of the Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori’s led administration’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure across the state.
He noted that the State government’s infrastructure development drive was a testament to its commitment to improving the lives of its citizens of the state.
The commissioner added that the completion of urban road networks and the ongoing construction of rural roads, the state was poised for significant economic growth and development.
He lauded the governor for his unwavering commitment towards delivering quality infrastructure across the state.
Izeze described the projects as a reflection of the administration’s resolve to fulfill its campaign promises to the people.
He revealed that the roads form part of a larger set of eight interlinked routes under the administration’s urban renewal initiative.
According to him, this area was once in a deplorable state, with residents living in poor conditions due to lack of accessible roads.
“Before now, this place was practically uninhabitable like the third world before independence. But as you can see today, the roads are smooth, well-drained, and motorable,” he said.
Izeze said the Ministry of Works conducted rigorous supervision during the construction phase to ensure contractors complied with specifications.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work, adding that the roads would soon be inaugurated by the governor either physically or virtually.
The commissioner who also inspected the Oko-Amakom road project, noted that when completed, would help to ease the transportation of produce to major markets in Onitsha and Oko, boosting the local economy.
Izeze stressed the importance of rural connectivity, noting that the project was vital to the predominantly agrarian Oko communities.
He highlighted that the project has been long overdue, predating the creation of Delta State, but is now being brought to life under Governor Oborevwori’s stewardship.
The commissioner emphasised the administration’s focus on delivering people-centered infrastructure that bridges the gap between urban and rural communities, improves living standards, and drives inclusive economic growth across the State.
The South-South Area Manager of Setraco Nigeria Limited, Mr. Jay Jay, assured that the Oko-Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu project would be completed within five weeks.
Among the completed roads inspected were Onuorah Ifesinachi Street, Aaron Ndubusi Street, Chinedu Obodo Way, Senator Francis Nwajel Street, and Jude Ugheni Street in Asaba.
Also inspected were the Rock Valley Boulevard, Abigail Orugbo Street, Oke Oshogbor Street, Chinedu Obodo Extension, and Alika Blessing Street off Talita School Road.
Others are Kwakagbor Community Road and the accompanying discharge drains that crosses within the GSM Company, Asaba.
