Gov Yusuf presents N1.368trn 2026 budget to Kano Assembly

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Wednesday formally presented a proposed N1.368 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year to the Kano State House of Assembly, describing it as “a covenant to consolidate gains, complete key projects, and build lasting systems that serve generations to come.”
The budget, tagged “Budget of Infrastructure, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development,” prioritised capital projects, with N934.64 billion earmarked for capital expenditure and N433.48 billion for recurrent spending, reflecting a 68:32 capital-to-recurrent ratio.
According to Governor Yusuf, this allocation demonstrates the administration’s commitment to development-focused spending, built around completing legacy projects, consolidating gains, and enabling new initiatives.
A significant portion of the budget is directed at the social and economic sectors, with education, health, and infrastructure receiving the highest allocations.
Governor Yusuf revealed the sectoral distribution as follows: Education – N405.35 billion (30%), Health – N212.25 billion (16%), and Infrastructure – N346.29 billion (25%).
Other sectors receiving notable funding include agriculture, security, water resources, commerce, tourism, youth development, women affairs, and environment/climate change.
The governor described these allocations as evidence of the administration’s commitment to human capital development, citizen welfare, and laying the foundation for sustainable growth.
Reflecting on the administration’s progress since taking office in May 2023, Governor Yusuf noted that over 80 per cent of the government’s blueprint has been successfully implemented.
He urged lawmakers to ensure that the 2026 budget translates into tangible outcomes such as roads, classrooms, clinics, jobs, empowerment initiatives, and improved living standards for Kano residents.
“Let us ensure that this budget does not remain on paper but translates into visible development across the state,” he said.
Governor Yusuf also praised the Kano State House of Assembly for its unprecedented cooperation and constructive engagement with his administration.
He expressed hope that the collaborative spirit would continue in the implementation of the 2026 budget.
The governor also thanked citizens for their unwavering goodwill and trust, as well as the ministries, MDAs, development partners, civil society, and technical teams involved in preparing the budget.
As the state government approaches the latter part of its four-year tenure, the governor emphasised the urgency of delivering on electoral promises.
“We are nearing the completion of the third quarter of our four-year mandate.
”This moment marks a critical juncture that demands renewed urgency and focused implementation as we race against time,” he said.
Governor Yusuf formally presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the assembly, concluding his presentation with prayers: “May Allah (SWT) continue to guide our steps, bless our efforts, forgive our past, bless our present, and guide our future.”
The bill is now before the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and passage.
