Premier league unveils own streaming service, Premier League Plus

The Premier League has announced plans to launch its own direct-to-consumer streaming platform, Premier League Plus, signalling a major shift in delivering English top-flight football to fans.

The service will debut in Singapore next season, offering subscribers access to all 380 matches, a 24/7 channel, and a range of additional content.

The league described the move as a “long, considered process” aimed at building a direct relationship with viewers.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said the app will operate like Netflix, accessible on smart TVs and laptops.

He emphasised that the Singapore rollout will serve as a test case for potential global expansion.

Existing broadcast deals, including the UK’s £6.7 billion agreement with Sky Sports and TNT Sports, remain unaffected.

Masters noted that Premier League Plus complements, rather than replaces, traditional media partnerships.

The initiative coincided with the opening of a new Premier League Studios production hub in Olympia, London, enhancing the league’s in-house content capabilities.

Direct-to-consumer streaming offers the league greater control over distribution and the potential for additional subscription revenue, aligning with strategies adopted by the NFL, NBA, MLB, and Formula One.

By reaching viewers directly, the Premier League aims to reshape the global football-watching experience while sustaining its financial dominance.
