NAF Airstrike neutralizes terrorist commanders in Sambisa

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed the elimination of high-value terrorist commanders and fighters following a precision airstrike in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno State.

The operation, conducted on February 28, 2026, was carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai under the Joint Task Force (North-East) and focused on insurgent enclaves in the Yuwe general area.

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, explained that the mission followed detailed Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations confirming the presence of command hideouts and logistics depots.

“The early morning air interdiction was intelligence-driven and carefully coordinated to ensure precision,” Ejodame said, noting that NAF strike aircraft destroyed critical command-and-control facilities and disrupted insurgent supply chains.

Post-strike assessments confirmed the neutralisation of several senior commanders and fighters coordinating attacks in the region.

Surveillance flights continue to monitor fleeing insurgents and identify additional verified targets.

Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, Chief of the Air Staff, commended the professionalism of the aircrew and support teams.

“The Nigerian Air Force will continue to project decisive air power in close coordination with ground forces until all identified terrorist enclaves are dismantled,” he affirmed.

Ejodame added that intelligence-led operations would remain central to sustaining peace and security in the North-East, underscoring the NAF’s commitment to denying terrorists safe havens across the country.
