Anambra Governorship Poll: INEC accredits 76 media houses, 508 journalists

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the accreditation of 76 media organisations and 508 journalists and media personnel for the coverage of the Anambra State Governorship Election slated for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, INEC said the accredited media outfits met all necessary requirements and have been cleared to provide comprehensive reportage of the electoral process.
The electoral body announced that the distribution of official accreditation tags to approved journalists and crew members would begin on Monday, November 3, and continue through Thursday, November 6, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily.
According to the commission, the distribution exercise will take place at the International Press Centre, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat Complex, located behind the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office in Awka, Anambra State.
INEC advised journalists and media organisations to ensure their representatives collect the tags within the stipulated period to avoid any disruptions in coverage on election day.
The commission reminded all accredited journalists to adhere strictly to the Code of Conduct for Election Coverage, emphasising professionalism, fairness, and respect for electoral guidelines.
It further cautioned that INEC reserved the right to withdraw or cancel accreditation if any reporter, media outlet, or crew member is found to have violated the commission’s rules or engaged in actions that compromise the integrity of the process.
INEC also revealed that a select number of accredited media organisations have been granted access to the Collation Centre for transparent monitoring and coverage of result collation activities.
“These organisations are expected to comply fully with all security and operational protocols issued by the Commission,” the statement noted.
INEC reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency and openness in the conduct of the Anambra election, stressing that the presence of both local and international media would enhance public confidence in the electoral process.
The commission encouraged journalists to channel any enquiries to the Director of Voter Education and Publicity (VEP) for clarification on accreditation or election coverage procedures.
The Anambra governorship election is one of the key off-cycle polls to be conducted by INEC in 2025 and is expected to draw widespread attention from political stakeholders, observers, and the media.
