CAN honours Akume, ex-CDS Musa, Enenche, others for service to church, nation

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has recognised distinguished Nigerians for their outstanding contributions to God, the Church, and humanity during a public lecture and award ceremony held by the FCT chapter of CAN in Abuja on Thursday.

Among the honourees were Sen. George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF); General Christopher Musa (rtd), former Chief of Defence Staff; and Dr. Paul Enenche, Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre.

Others included Comfort Chigbue, CAN’s National Director of Legal and Public Affairs, Mr. Oronsaye Osagiede, and several serving lawmakers and Christian leaders.

The event, themed “The Response of the Church to the Menace of Insecurity in the Country,” also marked the unveiling of the proposed CAN FCT Secretariat.

In his keynote address, Rev. Timothy Amakom, Chairman of CAN FCT, described the event as “both a celebration of service and a call to nation-building.”

“Today is no ordinary day. We celebrate men and women whose lights have shone brightly in service to God and humanity.

”At the same time, we take a bold step of faith by laying the foundation for a lasting legacy: our Secretariat, a home for vision, coordination, and impact for the Body of Christ,” Amakom said.

He explained that the planned Secretariat would serve as a hub for leadership training, advocacy, and inter-denominational collaboration.

“Imagine a place where Christian leaders can gather to plan national interventions, mentor young believers in faith and leadership, and merge research, advocacy, and prayer to influence policies and culture. That is the Secretariat we envision—a lighthouse for truth, unity, and transformation,” he added.

Amakom also called on Christians to contribute generously toward the project.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Dr. Enenche thanked CAN for the recognition.

“As we are being appreciated on this earth, may we also receive the same appreciation before our Maker,” he said.

The event drew senior government officials, religious leaders, captains of industry, and representatives from the Christian community across the FCT.
