Lagos State to divert traffic for 8 months on Lekki-Ajah corridor for road repairs

The Lagos State Government has announced a major road rehabilitation project along the Lekki-Ajah corridor, which is expected to last for eight months, beginning November 15, 2025, and running through July 15, 2026.
The project aimed to enhance road quality, reduce congestion, and improve commuter safety along one of the city’s busiest transport routes.
Speaking on the project, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, explained that the construction work would be carried out in two distinct phases.
This phased approach is designed to minimize disruption and allow traffic to continue moving as smoothly as possible despite the ongoing repairs.
The first phase of the rehabilitation will cover the stretch between the Lekki First Toll Gate and the Lekki Second Toll Gate.
The work will be carried out in seven separate sections, with one lane closed at a time while the other remains open for motorists.
During this stage, vehicles traveling toward Lekki and Ajah will be able to pass through without major interruption, using the available lane.
Once repairs on a section are completed, construction will move to the next lane or section, ensuring that traffic continues to flow.
The second phase involves four sections of road between the Lekki Second Toll Gate and the Ajah under-bridge.
In this phase, motorists traveling from Ajah toward Lekki will be redirected to a single lane while work is carried out on the other lane.
After completion of the first lane, construction will shift to the remaining lane.
During this phase, traffic heading toward Ajah will continue to move uninterrupted, allowing for continuous passage even while repairs are ongoing.
Mr. Osiyemi urged drivers and commuters to exercise patience, adhere to traffic signs and guidance, and plan ahead for possible delays during the construction period.
He stressed that the roadworks are part of the state government’s broader plan to upgrade infrastructure, enhance safety, and reduce traffic congestion in one of Lagos’ busiest corridors.
The project reflects Lagos State’s commitment to maintaining high-quality road networks and ensuring that transportation routes are efficient, safe, and resilient to accommodate the city’s growing population and traffic demands.
