My Prophecy Came Too Soon STEVE AGWO OKECHA

One and a half years ago , I looked into a crystal ball, and predicted, that the agitation or clamour for Anioma state creation would dwindle or fizzle out in the first month of the first quarter of 2026.

The errand boys called me unprintable names. Some even spoke in tongues to insult my person. I smiled. And smiled.

At my level of exposure culturally and intellectually, I have read the rules of the game inside out. I knew my onions about state creation.

Some of our people are fully aware of my stand on Anioma(now called Anim-Oma) state creation in Nigeria.

This sudden change of name is, clearly, a reflection of confusion– a brazen symbol cluelessness.

Exactly TWO days ago, I read that Anioma state creation was no longer ” a done deal.”

After all the “presidential” nod. After all the endorsement by 95 senators.

After all the forged signatures of LGA chairmen and councilors.

After all the efforts of media men and women, who depend on their principal for daily bread.

I did not rejoice, and will not rejoice, because the Anioma agitators, despite our sincere advice and admonitions, chose to stubbornly chase the shadows.

I am pretty certain that there would probably be no Christmas rice to be shared for the failed agitators.

I have always advocated for sound education for our youths. Thank God, some of us have acquired bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and PhDs.

But, I have now realised that a good number of our educated brothers and sisters, are the REAL problem of our land.

Education is not the ability to read and write alone. Real education entails CRITICAL thinking, such that one is able to rationalise events or phenomena.

Many of our people could NOT give a thought to what is involved in state creation.

I have heard some of them say, that our land would have more senators, if Anioma state is created.

Rubbish! What a reasoning! What has the acquisition of wealth by three senators say, got to do with the overall betterment of the lives of our people?

I appeal to all Ukwuani–Ndosumili academics to always show our people the light. They have been blessed to do so.

My people, call it Anioma or Anim-Oma or Ani-Osu or Ani-Igbo or Ani-Ojor State, no such state will see the light of the day.

I am NOT dreaming. I hope that our people are warming up for the 2027 elections.

Happy Christmas, and a prosperous New Year of Emancipation. God bless.
