Nigerian leaders call for unity, hope, reflection in Christmas

As Nigerians marked the 2025 Christmas celebrations, prominent political figures extended heartfelt greetings, urging citizens to embrace unity, hope, and resilience amid ongoing national challenges.

Former and current leaders alike highlighted the season’s deeper message of peace, compassion, and collective responsibility.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan used his Christmas message to remind Nigerians of the power of faith and perseverance.

Reflecting on the significance of Christmas as a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, Jonathan encouraged citizens to draw strength from hope and unity to overcome national difficulties.

“Christmas is a season that reminds us of the enduring light that shines even in times of uncertainty,” he said, urging Nigerians not to succumb to despair.

He stressed that the virtues of faith, humility, and selfless service provide the foundation for navigating present challenges and building a stronger nation.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar echoed similar sentiments, emphasising peace, love, and forgiveness as essential for national renewal.

In a statement issued by his media office in Abuja, Atiku called on Nigerians to use the festive season for introspection and reconciliation.

“Christmas calls us to rise above division, heal old wounds, and recommit to the unity and common destiny of our nation,” he said.

Atiku urged citizens to translate the season’s spirit of generosity and compassion into daily actions, fostering stronger relationships within communities and promoting national cohesion.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged Nigerians to deepen national unity and extend compassion to the less privileged during the festive season.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Akpabio emphasised that Christmas should serve as both a time of joy and a period of reflection on collective responsibility.

He called on citizens of all faiths to embrace the universal values of love, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence, noting that these principles were central to sustaining a cohesive and resilient nation.
