Fubara reaffirms authority, promises peace in Rivers

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, has restated that he remains firmly in charge of the state, vowing that his administration will continue to prioritise peace, security and the protection of lives and property.
The governor spoke on Saturday in Port Harcourt while attending the final match of the 2026 Port Harcourt Polo Tournament, where he served as a special guest.
He stressed that his government would not encourage or support any action capable of undermining public safety or stability in the state.
Fubara said his focus remained on delivering the commitments made to the people of Rivers State, insisting that maintaining law and order is a fundamental responsibility of government.
He expressed satisfaction with the successful staging of the week-long polo tournament, noting that it was conducted without any security incident.
According to him, the peaceful atmosphere during the event demonstrated that Rivers State is safe for residents, visitors and investors.
The governor, however, lamented the recurring political tensions in the state, observing that such crises have coincided with the annual polo tournament for three consecutive years.
He described the situation as unfortunate, recalling that similar challenges emerged during previous editions of the event.
Despite the political climate, Fubara assured that his administration would continue to function effectively and support individuals and organisations genuinely committed to the development of the state.
He also pledged that the state government would take steps to improve facilities at the Port Harcourt Polo Club, which he described as having one of the finest natural grass polo pitches in Nigeria.
Fubara urged visiting players and guests, including foreign participants, to enjoy their stay in Port Harcourt and help project a positive image of the state by sharing accurate accounts of their experiences.
The tournament attracted dignitaries and players from within and outside Nigeria, including teams from India and Argentina, as well as the Argentine Ambassador to Nigeria.
