Delta speaker applauds judicial appointments of constituents

The Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dennis Guwor, has described the recent elevation of two Delta indigenes to the High Court Bench as a significant boost to the state’s judiciary and a reaffirmation of merit in public service.
Justices Jereoma Sam-Oligida and Irene Boeye Ukuli were among six judges sworn in by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Wednesday at the Unity Hall of Government House, Asaba, during a ceremony that marked another step in strengthening the state’s justice system.
Reacting to the development, Guwor said the appointments reflected the growing recognition of competence, integrity and professionalism within the Delta legal community.
He noted that the elevation of the two jurists was not only a personal achievement but also an encouragement to young legal practitioners who aspire to serve at the highest levels of the profession.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, the speaker emphasised that the judges’ rise to the Bench was the outcome of years of dedication to the rule of law and consistent service to society.
He said the judiciary plays a critical role in maintaining peace and order, adding that the appointment of judges with proven character would further strengthen public confidence in the justice system.
Guwor urged the new judges to approach their duties with courage and impartiality, stressing that their decisions would have far-reaching consequences for individuals, communities and the state as a whole.
According to him, the responsibility entrusted to them goes beyond legal interpretation, as judges are expected to embody fairness, uphold constitutional values and protect the rights of all citizens without discrimination.
The speaker expressed optimism that the addition of Justices Sam-Oligida and Ukuli to the High Court would enhance the quality of justice delivery and contribute to good governance in Delta.
He wished the judges wisdom, good health and strength, assuring them of the support and goodwill of the State House of Assembly as they begin their service on the Bench.
