NRS records N28.3trn revenue, targets N40.7trn in 2026

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) generated N28.3 trillion in 2025, a growth of over 30 per cent from N25.5 trillion recorded in 2024, the agency disclosed.

Mrs. Amina Kurawa, Executive Director for Government and Large Taxpayers, said non-oil revenue drove the growth, highlighting its increasing contribution to total collections.

She made the announcement at an NRS staff retreat on Tuesday, emphasising the agency’s role in improving Nigeria’s fiscal performance and broadening the tax base.

Looking ahead, NRS has set a collection target of N40.7 trillion for 2026, aiming to strengthen revenue streams and support government projects.

The agency planned to achieve this target through higher non-oil contributions and increased royalties from mineral and resource-based activities.

Kurawa said Company Income Tax, Value Added Tax, and the Development Levy would be critical in boosting government revenue in the coming year.

NRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji urged staff to raise their performance, stressing that transparency, accountability, and efficiency remain central to the service’s operations.

The agency also projected growth in compliance and collection efficiency, seeking to reduce leakages and expand its reach across sectors.
