2027: Atiku, Makinde hold private meeting with IBB

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde met with ex-Military President Ibrahim Babangida at his Minna residence on Tuesday in a closed-door session.

Atiku told journalists that his visit focused on strengthening the African Democratic Congress (ADC) structures in Niger State, insisting the meeting was unrelated to the 2027 presidential election.

He emphasised Nigerians’ demand for real-time electronic transmission of election results, describing it as a measure to reduce confusion and disputes during polls.

“The current system mixes manual and electronic uploads, creating chaos. Nigerians clearly want real-time electronic result transmission,” Atiku said after the meeting.

He urged opposition parties to unite against the Senate’s decision to rely solely on manual result transmission. “We should not accept this,” he added.

Atiku noted that ADC was prioritising grassroots mobilisation nationwide, building party structures from ward to national level and registering members across the country.

Although Atiku did not disclose the specific reason for visiting Babangida, he said it was not his first trip to the elder statesman.

Governor Makinde remained private and declined comments, staying inside Babangida’s residence after Atiku’s departure.

Journalists were asked to leave the premises.

Atiku arrived in Minna at 1:30 p.m., followed by Makinde around 2:10 p.m.

He was accompanied by ADC leaders, including Baba Agaie, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Senators Ben Obi and Ozemina, and Niger State ADC Chairman Musa Hassan.
