Davido faces N1bn suit over alleged cyberbullying

Popular Nigerian singer Davido, born David Adeleke, is facing a N1 billion lawsuit over alleged harassment, cyberbullying, defamation and threats against Mrs. Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah, a lawyer representing Sophie Momodu.
In a pre-action notice dated February 24, 2026, and issued by Punuka Attorneys and Solicitors, counsel to Mrs. Enedah accused the artiste of orchestrating what they described as a sustained campaign of abuse following proceedings at the High Court of Lagos State.
The letter, formally addressed to Adeleke, alleges harassment, threats to life, cyberbullying and defamation.
The firm stated that it was acting on the clear instructions of its client and had notified the singer of her intention to commence legal action.
According to the document, the dispute stems from proceedings in Suit No: LD/1587PMC/2024 — David Adeleke v. Sophia Momodu — before the Lagos High Court.
The law firm claimed that during a hearing on February 12, 2026, Adeleke allegedly behaved in a manner it described as aggressive and verbally abusive toward Mrs. Enedah.
It further alleged that the situation escalated to the point where physical restraint was required to prevent disruption of proceedings.
The notice also claimed that the court directed the singer to apologise in open court but that he allegedly failed to comply with the directive.
Punuka Attorneys further alleged that the controversy spilled onto social media the following day when posts from an Instagram account, identified as @cutie_juls, featured the lawyer’s photograph and publicly identified her.
According to the firm, the posts triggered a wave of abusive messages and threats directed at Mrs. Enedah and members of her family.
The notice also accused Adeleke of making statements on his verified Instagram and X accounts, tagging the lawyer and allegedly making derogatory remarks about her competence and conduct in court.
Among the statements cited in the letter were claims in which the singer allegedly described her as “the worst lawyer ever,” language the firm characterised as malicious and reputationally damaging.
The claimant’s counsel argued that legal practitioners are entitled to perform their duties without intimidation or orchestrated public hostility, particularly in matters involving child welfare, which they said should not be subjected to social media sensationalism.
The firm demanded that Adeleke immediately cease further commentary on the matter while it remains before the court.
It also called for a clear and unequivocal public apology across all his verified social media platforms, retracting the alleged defamatory statements.
Additionally, the notice requires that a formal written apology be issued to Mrs. Enedah and published not only on his social media accounts but also in at least two widely circulated national newspapers.
The pre-action notice signals the commencement of formal legal proceedings if the demands are not met. Mrs. Enedah is seeking N1 billion in damages for alleged reputational harm, emotional distress and the impact of the purported online harassment.
As of the time of filing this report, Davido has not publicly responded to the claims.
