Wike camp sets conditions for PDP reconciliation talks

Ahead of the planned reconciliation between the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike’s loyalists, the Wike camp has outlined two non-negotiable conditions for the discussions.

Speaking to THISDAY, National Publicity Secretary of the National Caretaker Committee loyal to Wike, Haruna Mohammed, said the March 29 national convention must proceed as scheduled and that no new caretaker committee should be formed, insisting the existing structure is valid.

“We are open to reconciliation, but each group must bring their written conditions to avoid misrepresentation,” he said.

Senator Samuel Anyanwu confirmed ongoing discussions but stressed that no formal truce has been reached yet, describing the meetings as efforts to create a conducive environment for resolution.

Reacting to the lingering PDP leadership crisis and the Appeal Court’s nullification of the 2025 Ibadan PDP National Convention, party chieftain Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse dismissed fears of collapse, calling the PDP a strong opposition platform.

“The party remains the main opposition and a credible challenge to the ruling party, despite some defections,” he said.

Former governor and PDP founding member, Sule Lamido, urged party stakeholders to support Wike’s caretaker leadership, warning that continued divisions could weaken the opposition.

Speaking during a Ramadan Iftar in Bamaina, Jigawa State, Lamido described Wike as a strategic politician who acted decisively to prevent a leadership vacuum, and called for unity to rebuild the party.
