Akpabio urges Muslims to show compassion this Eid

As Muslims across Nigeria and around the world mark the joyous occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the faithful, calling on them to embrace compassion, forgiveness, and unity in their communities.

In a message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio commended Nigerians for successfully completing the spiritual exercise of fasting and urged them to continue engaging in philanthropic acts, including almsgiving and extending love to others.

“This festive period reminds us of the enduring values of empathy, kindness, and generosity that Eid embodies,” the Senate President stated.

“As you conclude the spiritual reflection and fasting, it is vital to remember the less privileged and promote understanding, peace, and harmony across Nigeria.”

Akpabio added that the festival should inspire citizens to work toward a more just and cohesive society, highlighting that such virtues are essential for national development.

He also sent warm Eid greetings to Bola Tinubu, the Senate, his constituents, and all Muslims, praying for progress, prosperity, and peace in the country and beyond.

Meanwhile, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, formally declared Friday as the day for Eid-el-Fitr.

The Sultan congratulated Muslims on completing the Ramadan fast and called for prayers focused on national unity and development.

The announcement by the Sultan followed the Federal Government’s declaration of Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the festival.

The Ministry of Interior, through a statement signed by Permanent Secretary Magdalene Ajani and issued by Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, also extended congratulations to the Muslim faithful on completing the holy month of Ramadan.

Eid-el-Fitr, which signals the end of Ramadan, is not only a time for celebration but also a period for reflection, charity, and strengthening bonds within families and communities.

Leaders across the country have emphasised the importance of sustaining these values beyond the festivities.
