Ex-Iran foreign minister dies after airstrike injuries
Former Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharrazi has died from injuries sustained in a recent airstrike, according to Iranian state media reports released early Friday.
Kharrazi, who headed Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, was wounded days ago during what officials described as a joint Israeli-U.S. airstrike.
The state news agency Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) confirmed his death, stating that he “was martyred a few hours ago.”
The veteran diplomat served as foreign minister of the Islamic Republic from 1997 to 2005, playing a prominent role in shaping Iran’s foreign policy during that period.
In recent years, Kharrazi remained influential in government circles, serving as an adviser to Iran’s long-time supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.
Media reports indicated that Khamenei was killed at the onset of the ongoing U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.
The developments mark a significant escalation in the conflict, with the loss of senior political figures adding to rising tensions in the region.
